The world is composed of many countries, many of them having their own language, making it hard for people who travel a lot to fit in. Although a lot of individuals go out of their way to use the universal language, which is English, others opt to stick with just knowing their own. For this reason, it has become necessary for them to look for people who could interpret other languages for them. This was taken advantage of by many businesses around the globe. One of such businesses is the Language Line Services.
Knowing that it would have to deal with different kinds of people, Language Line Services saw it fit to have its own set of ethical rules called the Interpreter Code of Ethics. One of the principles embedded in such code is confidentiality. It espouses the idea that whatever information is learned by the interpreter in the course of his service, such information shall remain confidential. The same shall not be published, divulged or in any way communicated to other people or entity. It should also be the aim of an interpreter according to the Interpreter Code of Ethics of Language Line Services to be accurate and come up with complete information when translating for a client. Nothing from the statement to be translated shall be altered or omitted regardless of what the same may entail. It is also not advisable to give another unsolicited explanation while in the course of the job. An interpreter should also be unbiased and impartial. He should not allow his personal opinion or belief that could potentially modify or at the very least cloud the statement that is supposed to be interpreted.
